Located strategically in the middle of Asia, the world's most populous and largest economic growth region, Malaysia is growing in stature and importance as a trading and business hub. For over 600 years Malaysia has been at the heart of trade between China, India, Middle East, the rest of Asia and the world.
Malaysia is a newly industrialised economy that has experienced an economic boom and infrastructure development. Economic growth has been attributed to the country retaining its importance as an international shipping trade route and its diversification into mining, oil & gas, forestry, agriculture, electronics, information technology and multimedia. More recently Malaysia has moved towards more service industries, such as the financial sector and niche areas such as Islamic banking.
Economic diversity, investment in new infrastructure, excellent air connections to major world ports and the growth in local expertise to facilitate international conferences and exhibitions have all contributed to the country's growth as an exhibition centre.
In 2009 Malaysia held 43 major trade fairs with an estimated 233,750 square meters sold, placing it in the top 10 trade fair locations within the Asia Pacific region (Source: UFI The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry). Malaysia was one of the top three fastest growing markets during a weak global economic environment.
